Genie O’Neill loves her new job, and Whitireia Community Polytechnic helped her get there. Genie began studying with the Office Administration & Computing Level 2 (Introductory) programme. Once she successfully completed this course, she was very keen to continue with her study and immediately enrolled in the Office Administration Intermediate and Advanced programmes aiming to complete both certificates over 1 year.

A resident of the Kapiti Coast, Genie has achieved the National Certificate in Office Administration & Computing Levels 2, 3 & 4 and is now the Co-ordinator for Assistant’s at the office of L’Arche New Zealand Incorporated. L’Arche is a care provider for intellectually disabled adults within New Zealand. This non-profit organisation works towards assisting intellectually disabled adults with everyday living. Genie is in charge of advertising, interviewing, hiring, preparation of paperwork and other things for overseas and local applicant’s workers applying to work for L’Arche New Zealand.
“The skills I have learned have given me confidence and up to date knowledge of computer technology and other related fields. The business administration part of the programme was particularly useful; I am now using all of the skills we learnt in class regularly. If I hadn’t completed the programmes I don’t think I would have the confidence or the skills required to do my job.”
