The Whitireia Schools Liaison Team works with secondary schools and their students, providing programmes, events, talks and awards that build advanced skills and knowledge for work or further study.
The team also attends career days and evenings. Their calendar includes speaking to various groups regarding the programmes offered at the polytechnic and organising visits of small groups to Whitireia campuses.
Secondary school students are able to enrol at Whitireia to study STAR/ Gateway or School Partnership programmes while still at school.
The Schools Liaison Team offers support to teachers by giving careers presentations in schools, supporting Schools Careers Evenings, expos or events, providing assistance at Subject Choice Evenings and coordinating on-site visits to Whitireia with a speciality focus.
Programmes Run In Schools Include Technology and General Curriculum Subjects.
Tertiary Exploration Sessions: Morning sessions provide an opportunity for Yr 10 students to explore a tertiary environment, gain an understanding of entry requirements, terminology and future study options available.
An extensive range of courses are offered throughout the year and are run on site at one of our campuses. STAR course timetables are block or periodic. Students gain unit standards or papers towards NCEA standards. These courses build understanding of future study options and career pathways.
Over one or two days , students gain an insight into possible areas of further study without the pressure of being assessed.
Experience days and information sessions are also available across a range of disciplines.
Senior Deans, Career advisors, Heads of Departments, STAR and Gateway Co-ordinators are offered single day courses in new developments: course content, entry requirements, pre-requisites and also other new developments at Whitireia New Zealand.
