Ester Temukisa Laban, who manages the Whitireia Pacific Island Education programmes, is also a published author. Her most recent title is O le Fagogo ia Sina ma le Tuna, a traditional Samoan story, retold as a play. In it, Sina makes a pet of an eel, but she doesn't know that he is really the King of Fiji in disguise, and he has a special gift for Sina and her people.
Published by Learning Media, O le Fagogo ia Sina ma le Tuna was illustrated by Gus Sinaumea Hunter and is a finalist in this year's Children's Book Awards. It is also available in Cook Island Māori, Niuean and Tokelauan versions.
