Programme Overview

This programme prepares graduates with the knowledge and practical skills necessary to enter an apprenticeship in the plumbing, gasfitting, drainlaying or roofing industries.

Class times are Monday to Wednesday, 8 am–4 pm where possible, and follow the primary school holidays.​​​​

Programme Outline

The programme covers the following subjects:

  • Using and maintaining plumbing tools and equipment
  • Welding, brazing and soldering
  • Using and maintaining drainlaying tools and equipment
  • Working out levels using laser equipment
  • Installing drains and manholes
  • Installing different kinds of roofs
  • Work experience
  • Communication and calculations unit standards
  • Computing, including creating a CV
  • First aid certificate
  • Health and safety
  • Electrical safety
  • Certificate in Site Safe

Entry Requirements

10 credits NCEA Level 1 literacy and 10 credits NCEA Level 1 numeracy or equivalent
