Professional Development Seminars and Workshop
We offer one day workshops where you can sharpen your assessment skills using superb simulation suites, using medium to high fidelity technology. They provide professional development hours to meet continuing education requirements for health professionals. The following workshops are being offered at the Porirua campus in Semester Two:
Sharpen your physical assessment skills when working with acute and chronically unwell people, and increase your ability to manage safe patient care. This one day workshop covers a range acute and chronic conditions, including cardiovascular and respiratory system assessment and risk analysis, focusing on ABC Head to toe physical assessment and ISBAR.
Understand the physiology of fluid management and the mechanisms which maintain homeostasis. Explore the impact of a surgical intervention on fluid balance and learn to recognise post-operative complications associated with deviations in physiology. Identify management issues associated with fluid balance compromise in the perioperative period.
Core Immediate Resuscitation
Update your resuscitation training to comply with the New Zealand Resuscitation Council (NZRC) guidelines. Course content includes: Adult CPR and choking, AED, child/infant CPR and choking, airway management and practical assessment.
Surgery and the Cardiac Compromised Patient
Understand the physiology of the cardiovascular system and the mechanisms which maintain homeostasis. Discuss the impact of a surgical intervention on the cardiovascular system and learn to recognise potential post-operative complications.
