Kate Marshall, BMus in Composition

Programme Coordinator, Musical Director

Kate Marshall has a BMus in Composition from Victoria University. She has trained through Trinity College of London and has her Performance Certificate in both flute and piano with distinction.

Kate has been Musical Director for many shows for companies such as Wellington Musical Theatre, Amici Productions, Porirua Little Theatre and Lifeflight Trust.


Jane Keller, BMus, BMus Ed and a Master of Vocal Pedagogy from the Ohio State University

Although classically trained and with over 30 years operatic experience, Jane's real loves are music theatre, cabaret and jazz. Since coming to New Zealand 28 years ago, she has concentrated on building her private vocal studio and developing her one woman cabaret shows. Bigger is Better, Do I Have to Get Naked?, Boomers Behaving Badly and Yep, Still Got It! All received rave reviews. Jane toured Boomers Behaving Badly for five weeks around New Zealand to full houses. She also helped develop and toured Floral Notes in New Zealand with Geraldine Brophy and Michael Nicholas Williams.


Leigh Evans ARAD Advanced, Examiner & Artistic Consultant to American Jazz Dance Affiliation

Trained in RAD Ballet and American Jazz, Leigh is recognised as one of New Zealand’s foremost choreographers and Dance Tutors. She has been involved in many successful music theatre and stage productions and is in hot demand in the corporate arena, working on product launches, balls and awards dinners.

Away from the theatre, Leigh has been involved with the direction and choreography of the pre match entertainment for the All Blacks and Hurricanes and the closing ceremonies for the IRB Sevens. Although firmly based in Wellington, Leigh’s skills are such that she regularly travels around the country and overseas to fulfil choreography and tutoring assignments and to share her love and energy of dance with up and coming performers.


Alan Palmer MA, AGSM & D

Alan trained at the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama London. In his professional acting career in the United Kingdom he spent two seasons at the Open Air Theatre in Regents Park London with The New Shakespeare Company. He also toured in a number of productions and played Ratty in the West End production of Toad of Toad Hall at the Piccadilly Theatre. He appeared on TV in films and series including The Bill and Minder.

In 1985, Alan founded the Northland Youth Theatre and was director of Forum North in Whangarei. In 1993 he began teaching acting at Northland Polytechnic. In New Zealand, Alan has appeared in TV productions including Shortland St and directed numerous productions in Northland. He has also appeared in films including Hook Line and Sinker

In 2000, Alan was awarded an MA in Theatre through Charles Sturt University. Alan Moved to Wellington with his family in 2007 and was appointed Operations Manager Wellington for Whitireia in 2008 where he also teaches for the Musical Theatre programme. At Whitireia, Alan has directed. Jane Eyre the musical, Dick Whittington and his Cat, and Serial Killer Barbie.
