The National Diploma in Reo Maori (Level 5) is a one year, full time programme based on an extension of the language base, developing use of Māori language, history and tikanga.
The curriculum incorporates pānui, whakarongo, tuhituhi, kōrero, paki, ōkawa, kīwaha, kīrehu, taunaha, whakatauākī, whaikōrero, karanga, haka, karakia, waiata, waiata-ā-ringa and waiata tawhito.
Programme structure and delivery includes a wide range of strategies that allow students to learn according to their specific needs. Practical experiences – noho marae, peer and group exercises, use of rākau, role modelling and pōwhiri – are included in the programme design to ensure a continuum of te reo Māori in a total immersion environment.
