Who we are

On 1 September 2022, we became Whitireia and WelTec business division of Te Pūkenga - New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology (Te Pūkenga).

Whitireia and WelTec are known for their high student success rates and culturally diverse student body. Every year we train over 8,000 students who study at one of our campuses across the Wellington region.

We offer a range of programmes of study at certificate, diploma, degree, postgraduate and Master’s levels. Our programmes have been developed in conjunction with industry to offer excellent vocational qualifications that are future-focused and provide ākonga with practical skills so you can pursue your career goals.

Whitireia is named after the Whitireia maunga (mountain) of Titahi Bay – the mountain that Ngāti Toa Rangatira identifies with, the highest mountain in their rohe. WelTec is one of Aotearoa New Zealand's oldest tertiary education institutions and the second-oldest in Wellington since 1904. Learn more about our history here

Targeted Evaluation Report

We were one of the first Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs) to navigate this new evaluation process in 2021. It is heartening to see the dedication and innovation of our kaimahi shine through in the report, especially as the evaluation took place as we were responding to the challenges of Covid-19. The report enables understanding as to why the Targeted Evaluation is important, and how it is at the heart of what we do in ensuring quality vocational education for ākonga in Wellington and the wider region. The report is available on the NZQA website.
